I went into Exclusion Zone expecting tougher shootouts, then it hit me that the real enemy is the air. You're jogging down a familiar street and the radiation meter starts creeping up, calm as you like, until it isn't. There's a clean bar on-screen that keeps you honest, and it's the kind of thing you check like a phone notification. Ignore it, let it fill, and your character just collapses—no drama, no second chance. If you're stocking up before a run, GTA 5 Money can be handy for getting set faster, but it won't save you from bad planning out there.

What makes the system nasty is the pace. It's not an instant "you're dead" wall. It's a slow accumulation that follows you into the next mistake. You'll think, "I can push a bit farther," and that's when the warning flash kicks in—something like "Critical: Organ failure imminent!"—and you suddenly stop looting and start running. People try to brute-force it like vanilla GTA, chugging through danger and hoping armour will matter. It doesn't. The bar is the fight, and it's always ticking in the background.

You figure out pretty quick that some parts of the map aren't just risky, they're basically a trap. Humane Labs feels like ground zero; step too close and the meter jumps like it's mad at you. Fort Zancudo Delta is another one, where you'll swear you're fine until you're not. Sandy Shores Airfield sits in that awkward middle zone—doable, but it punishes loitering. And don't sleep on the industrial stretches near the Port or LS Airport. They look "normal," so you relax, you wander, and then you're staring at a bar that's suddenly halfway to disaster.

Your best friend is the gas mask, item ID 46, and it changes the whole rhythm. Equip it and the build-up pauses, which sounds simple but feels huge when you're standing in a hot area and the meter finally stops climbing. It won't roll your exposure back, though, so you still have to leave clean. The catch is scarcity—masks don't show up whenever you want, so you can't treat it like a permanent buff. Save it for crossings you can't avoid, pop it on, move with purpose, then get back to safer ground.

Most of the time, survival comes down to boring decisions that pay off later. Take the edge of a contaminated block instead of cutting through the centre. Sprint when you must, slow down when you can, and don't get greedy when the meter's already high. If you're the kind of player who likes to streamline loadouts or pick up extra game items between sessions, RSVSR fits naturally into that routine, but the real win is learning when to retreat and live to scavenge another day.
